Twenty-three routines cards, coins, cups and balls devised by David Williamson, fully explained and with line drawings. Williamson's Wonders is the only book ever published on the magic of award-winning magician David Williamson (written by Richard Kaufman) and includes many tricks that have since been featured on national television by David Blaine. This book has many wonderful effects using coins, cards, cups and balls, silks, and a table knife.
The staggering amount of strong material in this thin but dense volume makes it a perennial favorite. Why? Because Williamson has a rare gift for plot innovations. Take the Card to Pocket plot. His “Fifty-one Cards to Pocket” is a modern twist, in which you cause every card EXCEPT a selected one to jump into your pocket. It’s simple yet ingenious. His Cups and Balls (using only two cups) is hilarious and deceptive. David’s “Three Card Trick” is also a modern classic and a fine effect where magic happens DESPITE your best efforts.
David Williamson is a wonderful performer and an extremely funny man. His wild style makes his performances a laugh a minute. He is best known for his work with Rocky the Raccoon and his extraordinary move, the striking vanish. The famous Striking Vanish is written up here and is in and of itself worth the price of the book. If you are unfamiliar with Williamson’s striking vanish you are in for an amazingly deceptive and useful move.
Another noteworthy effect is Rebate where any regular pen is borrowed and shaken. Coins can be heard rattling in the pen’s cap, upon which the magician removes the cap and two dimes and a nickel fall out. You then put the coins back into the pen and shake it where they can be heard again in the cap. The pen is then handed out for inspection.
There are no bad effects in this book, it is packed full of amazing effects, routines, and moves that are part of why David Williamson is so well respected in the magic community. If you are serious about magic and like utility moves, and very commercial routines this book is for you.
